Venice (Italian: Venezia, Venetian: Venesia or Venexia) is a city in northern Italy, the capital of the region Veneto, a population of 271251 (census estimate January 1, 2004). Together with Padua, the city is included in the Padua-Venice Metropolitan Area (population 1600000). Venice has been known as the “La Dominante”, “Serenissima”, “Queen of the Adriatic”, “City of Water”, “City of Bridges”, and “The City of Light”. It is often cited as one of the most beautiful cities in the world.[1] The city stretches across 118 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy. The saltwater lagoon stretches along the shoreline between the mouths of the Po (south) and the Piave (north) Rivers. The population estimate of 272000 inhabitants includes the population of the whole Comune of Venezia; around 62000 in the historic city of Venice (Centro storico); 176000 in Terraferma (the Mainland), mostly in the large frazione of Mestre and Marghera; and 31000 live on other islands in the lagoon. The Venetian Republic was a major maritime power during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and a staging area for the Crusades and the Battle of Lepanto, as well as a very important center of commerce (especially silk, grain and spice trade) and art in the 13th century up to the end of the 17th century.

Surrounded by the magnificent and captivating hills of Tuscan Crete are the rooftops and towers of Pienza, a small town with 2500 inhabitants. The town’s history is indelibly associated with Pope Pius the Second, who had a unique and resounding influence on what was also his birthplace. The head of the Roman Catholic Church decided to transform his home village into a perfect town of the Renaissance. The cathedral’s interior walls are covered with several beautiful paintings created by numerous master artists of Siena, one of whom was Lorenzo di Pietro who is also known as ‘Il Vecchietta’. In order to intensify the light within the cathedral, and following the wishes of the Pope, the walls were originally bereft of paintings. Despite numerous renovations instigated by Pius the Second, the character of the majority of the town’s houses, streets and old alleyways has been retained to the present day. The ‘Street of Love’, VIA DELL AMORE or ‘The Road of Kisses’, contains more than a little romance. Unfortunately, little remains of the old castle of Corsignano that, prior to the Pope’s construction program, was once located in the centre of the town. The death of Pius the Second in August 1464 brought with it the sudden end of Pienza’s golden years. Although the Pope’s architectural ideals for the town were never fully realized, he successfully transformed his home town forever.

www.campingspartacus.it Spartacus Camping I’m sure that way back in the good ol’days, say 1515 yrs ago, back when Pompei was just a child, mothers would send their sons down the graceful countryside to the archard of lemon and oranges, flowering the toes of Vesuvius, for some fruit. This orchard was transformed in 1975 to be the very 1st campground in all of Pompei. The founder,a wonderful man by the name DON GENNARO, seems to have passed his warm personality along to the younger generation of staff whom are happy to help and lager to please. Each grassy site, seperated by flowers,is outfitted with eletricity and water, and of course heighbors from all over the world.Young and old alike, they sleep soundly in tents, campers or the bungalow provided. Not only is this campground in the middle of this small world, but it has its own minimarket, internet point, laundry facilites, bar, pizzeria, restaurant, bathrooms for disabled,a childrens playing area, ping pong table and wonderful camper service. Camping Spartacus also recieved the Seal of quality wich was a proud day for Don Gennaro. Spartacus is running all day and night with open arms and warm beds. So please come; make friends and stay longer than expected.
