Pompeii

The forgotten city of Pompeii was destroyed in 79 AD by a volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. The city of ruins is rich in culture and bleeds history and is home to some of the most unique architectural artistry in Europe. The city was buried under more than 60 foot of ash before being rediscovered in 1592. The Roman Empire is brought back for those to see as the city has been unburied and has quickly become one of Italy tours top tourist attractions.

The ruins can be reached by foot or by taxi and there are many tours operating to give guided information on the once lost city. Tourists can spend days exploring the buildings and the large rock paved streets as they

Climate:

Italy is best travelled in the spring and fall months, April-May and October-November will offer up the mildest temperatures. The summer months of July and August can become extremely humid and this is when most of the locals will be on vacation, trying to escape the hot temperatures….so keep in mind if travelling during these months that there may be many businesses closed.


What to Do:

Bring along a camera and get ready to explore, the city of Pompeii is a tourist Mecca and offers some of the most unique and amazing architecture and you will want to capture the memories to show off to others. There are plenty of tour groups that offer exploration of the city and will give you a historical insight about what the city once was and how it came to be what it is today.

There are many historical sites to take in and it could take days to see them all, if you are on a tight timeframe you may want to skip ahead to the must sees while there.


House of the Vettii: This was home to a rich merchant and the architectural design is no less than amazing.


The Basilica: This important building served as the court house.

While in Pompeii you can visit other notable places of interest such as the Forum or public marketplace, the theatre that seated over 5000 people, or even the Lupanar, an ancient brothel that has pornographic frescoes.
